15 young Peoria Chess enthusiasts joined Camp Director, Mike Leali, and coaches Matt Leali & Murrel Rhodes for the 2008 Midwest Chess Camp held at Peoria Academy School. Participants enjoyed outdoor recreation and good eats while improving their Chess skills.

Classes were broken into two groups based on age and experience. In the advanced group, Chetan Reddy won the problem solving contest with Tony Feng finishing second. In the 4 round tournament held between creation breaks and chess lessons, Tony tied for first place with Jeffrey Xue. Prizes included several baseball collector items signed by Cub Hall of Famer Ernie Banks.

A second USCF rated tournament was held Saturday following the the camp. Chetan won the USCF tournament with a perfect 4-0 score, getting revenge on Tony for his loss in the camp tournament the previous day. Tied for second were Tony, TJ Wu and Colin McCoy. Prizes were given based on class. Class winners were Chetan, Prajwal Vemireddy, Colin, TJ and Molly McCoy.

A small round robin among coaches, parents and interested adults finished in a tie between Coach Matt and Sree Vemireddy.
