Tournament News

Andrew Fei and Chetan Reddy are playing in the current Peoria Championship being played every Monday evening starting at 7:30pm at HyVee in the Sheridan Village Shopping Center. Give them your support and stop by to watch the play. Coach Murrel will be annotating games from the tournament for GPCF.net.

Chetan Reddy Repeats as Warren Chess Scholar

Hult Chess Club member, Chetan Reddy, is again being recognized as a 2010 Warren Junior Chess Scholar based on his ranking in his age group in the country. He was in the top 50 in age 8 and under group in Feb 10 supplement, and in the top 35 in at least one supplement in the last 12 months to qualify for this recognition. Official presentation of awards was made at the Illinois State Scholastic Championship in March.

Chetan was also a 2009 winner. He has been active in Hult and the local chess community for several years, playing at the club and in tournaments as well as Chess Camp.

Private Chess Lessons Available

Private Chess lessons from Hult coaches Murrel and Patrick are now being scheduled at Borders Book Store in the Grand Prairie Mall weekends and Tuesday or Thursday evenings. Individual 1 hour sessions are available from 5pm to 9pm these nights. Lessons are geared to the individual and content is dependent on the players experience and skill level.

In addition to our club coaches, it is also possible to arrange lessons with Nikhil Kunche, a 2350 rated master who is taking up graduate school residency at Bradley University. And Timur Aliyev, a Caterpillar employee and also 2350, has just moved to Peoria and has indicated a willingness to provide lessons.

Hult Chess Club Info

Hult Chess Club meets every Friday night at the Hult Health Education Center, 5215 N. Knoxville Ave, Peoria, Illinois 61614, from 6:30 to 8:30pm. The club is for K-12 youngsters in Peoria and the surrounding area. Sets, boards and clocks are provided. Activities range from small tournaments to instruction to puzzles and commentary.

  • Who: Youth from Pre-K to 12th grade
  • What: Chess club run by youth, administered by adults
  • Where: Hult Health Education center at 5215 N. Knoxville Ave.
  • When: Friday nights from 6:30-8:30
  • Why: Every youth should belong to at least one club.
  • How much: $1 entry fee per youth to stay in the club for development
