Chess Camp for K-12th Grade, August 1st & 2nd with a tournament on Saturday the 3rd

General Information


All campers will need to be current USCF members. The students will be separated into divisions based on USCF rating. (USCF membership available at the Camp site). If students are new or unrated members, please indicate approximate skill level on registration form. This camp is conducted by the Greater Peoria Chess Federation

  • Where: Peoria Academy, 2711 W. Willow Knolls Drive. Peoria, IL. 61614
  • Drop Off: 7:30-8:00 am Thursday and Friday
  • Pickup: 4:45-5:00 pm

Chess Camp

  • Coach Patrick Cohen
  • Both Coach Murrel and Coach Patrick teach chess at the Hult Center on Fridays from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Camp includes:

  • Individual, Team and Problem Solving Competitions,
  • Game Analysis,
  • Simultaneous Exhibition,
  • Outside Activities,
  • Personal 1 on 1 Coaching,
  • Prizes,
  • Camp T Shirt
  • Certificate of Completion,
  • Lunch, including healthy snacks,
  • and a Chess Tournament

Camp Registration is for Thursday and Friday. There will be an Open tournament on Saturday. We encourage all campers to participate with their new found knowledge.


Scholastic Tournament


Saturday, August 3rd

  • Registration: 8:00-8:45; 4 round SS. times: 9:30, then ASAP, and awards ASAP;
  • Entry Fee: $15, $10 if a Midstate Chess Camp student;
  • Time Limit: All rounds game 45, 5 sec delay;
  • Other Information: USCF rated; USCF membership required. A limit of one "1/2 point" bye in any one of the 1^st three rounds with two round prior notice. 2 Scholastic Divisions, top and bottom half separated by rating. Trophies to top 10 in each division and top 2 Upsets per Division and other prizes as well.
