2018 GPCF National Chess Day Classic

Where: Mark Twain Hotel Packard Building 225 NE Adams Street Peoria, IL 61602 USA

When: Saturday, October 13th 2018

What: This tournament is 4 round officially rated United States Chess Federation (USCF) Swiss System Scholastic event for individuals. Players divided into sections by grade for pairing and prize purposes. All players play all rounds.

Who: Eligibility Pre-K through High School.

Entry Fee: $5 per player (payable at site, check or cash). If attending as a school, $5 per student with $100 maximum. USCF membership required and can be purchased at site. Advance Entry requested (but not required), e-mail murrel@gmail.com. You may still pay at the door, but as this is the first year of this tournament, we need to get an idea of how many players to expect. Check-in from 8 to 8:45am. No new entries and no substitutions allowed on Saturday morning after 9am. This allows time for first round pairings. First round will start at 9:30am. Other rounds and awards ASAP.

  • Rounds Rd 1 9:30 Rds 2-4 ASAP, Awards ASAP

Sections

Time Control:

  • K-3: Game 30 minutes, 5 second delay
  • 4-HS:Game 45 minutes, 5 second delay

Prizes: Individual trophies: Trophies to the top 3 individuals in each, medals to 4 & 5. You must have a score of at least ½ point to get a trophy. Team trophies: Top 3 schools in each section for middle school & high school. Junior high team awards based on combined totals of top 4 players in section. Extra: Pizza and juice and other food is available downstairs during the day. Other restaurants are nearby downtown.

Directions to Mark Twain:

  • Driving directions coming in on 74 West (from Bloomington or Chicago)
    • Take I-55 South out of Chicago toward Bloomington
    • Pick up 74 West outside of Bloomington
    • Take 74 West to Murray-Baker Bridge (Illinois River)
    • Stay in Right Lane on Bridge
    • Take Exit 93, marked Adams/Jefferson Streets
    • At second stoplight, turn left on Jefferson (one way)
    • Go one block and turn left on Fayette (one way)
    • Hotel is immediately to the right
  • Driving directions coming in on 74 East (from Moline/Galesburg)
    • Follow 74 East straight into Downtown Peoria
    • Take Exit 92B
    • At stoplight, continue straight to Fayette Street
    • After three blocks, turn right into parking lot of hotel
