39th Tazewell County Scholastic

Georgetown Middle School and the Greater Peoria Chess Federation will be sponsoring the 39th Annual Tazewell County Chess Tournament on Saturday, February 17, 2018 in Marquette Heights. Tazewell County students in grades three through eight will compete at Georgetown Middle School. Robert Ketcham, Principal, has again graciously offered to host the tournament. The school will be providing a concession stand. A menu and price list will be sent later with your confirmation.
Each grade level is a separate contest (with the exception of a 3rd/4th combination) with awards for the top ten individuals at that grade level. Trophies will be awarded for the top three individuals and a medallion for each in 4th through 10th place at their grade level. Pupils must register at their own grade level. A maximum of 64 individuals for each grade level has been set with five rounds to be played. An adult is to supervise his or her own players. Schools do not need to have a chess club for students to participate, and individual entries are welcome.

We will follow the schedule listed as much as possible; however, participants will be notified when each round is beginning:
8:30 Participants arrive and check in
9:00 First round begins
9:45 Second round
10:30 Third round
11:30-12:00 Lunch (Pupils may bring a sack lunch and concessions will be available.)
12:00 Fourth round
12:45 Fifth round
1:30 Awards
Scheduled times may vary depending on length of time needed to finish some games.

Tournament games will all be played with standard Staunton pieces. Pupils may bring chess sets or table games for their use in the relaxation area. We will need a few volunteers to serve as monitors on a full day or half day basis in the relaxation area.
In the past few years we have been able to accommodate all of the youngsters who wanted to participate and will accept the children for registration by name. If we do see a problem develop during registration at any grade level due to too many registrants, I will contact individual schools for revision.

A fee of $4:00 per entrant is to be sent with the registration with the check made payable to Georgetown Middle School.
Substitutes may be sent for registered players. They should report in with the name of the absent player and their own name. We might also be able to accept a few players on a standby basis for others that registered but cannot come. We do not use Chess Federation rating and do not need a school rank.

Officers and members of the Greater Peoria Chess Federation have assisted us in setting up the tournament and will serve as directors and officials. We greatly appreciate their assistance.

'''Georgetown Middle School and the Greater Peoria Chess Federation will be sponsoring the 38th Annual Tazewell County Chess Tournament on Saturday, February 18, 2017 in Marquette Heights. Tazewell County students in grades three through eight will compete at Georgetown Middle School. Robert Ketcham, Principal, has again graciously offered to host the tournament. The school will be providing a concession stand. A menu and price list will be sent later with your confirmation.'''

Each grade level is a separate contest (with the exception of a 3rd/4th combination) with awards for the top ten individuals at that grade level. Trophies will be awarded for the top three individuals and a medallion for each in 4th through 10th place at their grade level. '''Pupils must register at their own grade level.''' A maximum of 64 individuals for each grade level has been set with five rounds to be played. An adult is to supervise his or her own players. '''Schools do not need to have a chess club for students to participate, and individual entries are welcome.'''

We will follow the schedule listed as much as possible; however, participants will be notified when each round is beginning:

* 8:30 Participants arrive and check in
* 9:00 First round begins
* 9:45 Second round
* 10:30 Third round
* 11:30-12:00 Lunch (Pupils may bring a sack lunch and concessions will be available.)
* 12:00 Fourth round
* 12:45 Fifth round
* 1:30 Awards

Scheduled times may vary depending on length of time needed to finish some games.

Tournament games will all be played with standard Staunton pieces. Pupils may bring chess sets or table games for their use in the relaxation area. We will need a few volunteers to serve as monitors on a full day or half day basis in the relaxation area.

In the past few years we have been able to accommodate all of the youngsters who wanted to participate and will accept the children for registration by name. If we do see a problem develop during registration at any grade level due to too many registrants, I will contact individual schools for revision.

A fee of $4:00 per entrant is to be sent with the registration with the check made payable to Georgetown Middle School.

Substitutes may be sent for registered players. They should report in with the name of the absent player and their own name. We might also be able to accept a few players on a standby basis for others that registered but cannot come.
We do not use Chess Federation rating and do not need a school rank.

Officers and members of the Greater Peoria Chess Federation have assisted us in setting up the tournament and will serve as directors and officials. We greatly appreciate their assistance.

'''Georgetown Middle School and the Greater Peoria Chess Federation will be sponsoring the 38th Annual Tazewell County Chess Tournament on Saturday, February 20, 2016 in Marquette Heights. Tazewell County students in grades three through eight will compete at Georgetown Middle School. Robert Ketcham, Principal, has again graciously offered to host the tournament. The school will be providing a concession stand. A menu and price list will be sent later with your confirmation.'''

Each grade level is a separate contest (with the exception of a 3rd/4th combination) with awards for the top ten individuals at that grade level. Trophies will be awarded for the top three individuals and a medallion for each in 4th through 10th place at their grade level. '''Pupils must register at their own grade level.''' A maximum of 64 individuals for each grade level has been set with five rounds to be played. An adult is to supervise his or her own players. '''Schools do not need to have a chess club for students to participate, and individual entries are welcome.'''

We will follow the schedule listed as much as possible; however, participants will be notified when each round is beginning:

* 8:30 Participants arrive and check in
* 9:00 First round begins
* 9:45 Second round
* 10:30 Third round
* 11:30-12:00 Lunch (Pupils may bring a sack lunch and concessions will be available.)
* 12:00 Fourth round
* 12:45 Fifth round
* 1:30 Awards

Scheduled times may vary depending on length of time needed to finish some games.

Tournament games will all be played with standard Staunton pieces. Pupils may bring chess sets or table games for their use in the relaxation area. We will need a few volunteers to serve as monitors on a full day or half day basis in the relaxation area.

In the past few years we have been able to accommodate all of the youngsters who wanted to participate and will accept the children for registration by name. If we do see a problem develop during registration at any grade level due to too many registrants, I will contact individual schools for revision.

A fee of $4:00 per entrant is to be sent with the registration with the check made payable to Georgetown Middle School.

Substitutes may be sent for registered players. They should report in with the name of the absent player and their own name. We might also be able to accept a few players on a standby basis for others that registered but cannot come.
We do not use Chess Federation rating and do not need a school rank.

Officers and members of the Greater Peoria Chess Federation have assisted us in setting up the tournament and will serve as directors and officials. We greatly appreciate their assistance.

This tournament is an OFFICIAL United States Chess Federation (USCF) Swiss System Scholastic event for teams and individuals in 3 to 4 Divisions. (Divisions and trophies will vary due to attendance.) We will use 5 tiebreakers: Solkoff, Modified Median, Sonneborn-Berger, Performance of Opposition, and Average Opposition. USCF membership is required. JTP is acceptable for K-3. USCF memberships can be purchased on site.

All Divisions 4 Rounds and G30-5 Sec Delay. We are usually done by 3 pm.
Lower Primary: K-1 1st Rd, 9:30; 2nd Rd, ASAP; Lunch break; 3rd Rd, 12:00; 4th Rd, ASAP; Awards, ASAP
Upper Primary: 2-3 Same
Elementary: 4-5 Same
Junior High: 6-8 Same

1st Place Team trophies in all Divisions. A Team score is the top three scores for each school in each Division. 1st and 2nd place trophies to top two individuals in each Division. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd to the top individuals in each Grade. You must have at least one point to get a trophy. More or less trophies will be handed out according to attendance. Our goal is 25% to 30% in attendance get trophies.

There will be Unrated and Upset trophies in each Division.
Check-in: 8-9am at Registration Desk. Make sure everyone is accounted for at registration before 9am. After 9am those not accounted for are dropped and can play in 2nd Round if they are late arriving.

THE ENTRY DEADLINE is 8pm Wednesday night before the tournament (12/3/14).

Directions: From B/N area take I-74 West and get off at Goodfield exit. Go North on Rt.17 to Eureka and turn left (West) at 2nd stoplight (Rt 24). Next, go approx. 7.5 miles to Washington/Metamora Rd stoplight (Main St.) and turn left (South). Washington Middle School is on the right in about a mile.

Georgetown Middle School and the Greater Peoria Chess Federation will be
sponsoring the 35th Annual Tazewell County Chess Tournament on Saturday,
February 25, 2012 in Marquette Heights. Tazewell County students in grades three
through eight will compete at Georgetown Middle School. Robert Ketcham,
Principal, has again graciously offered to host the tournament. The
school will be providing a concession stand. A menu and price list will be
sent later with your confirmation.

Each grade level is a separate contest (with the exception of a 3rd/4th
combination) with awards for the top ten individuals at that grade level.
Trophies will be awarded for the top three individuals and a medallion
for each in 4th through 10th place at their grade level.

A maximum of 64 individuals for each grade level has been set with five rounds
to be played. An adult is to supervise his or her own players.

In the past few years we have been able to accommodate all of the
youngsters who wanted to participate and will accept the children for
registration by name. If we do see a problem develop during registration
at any grade level due to too many registrants, I will contact individual
schools for revision.

A fee of $4:00 per entrant is to be sent with the registration with the
check made payable to Georgetown Middle School.

Substitutes may be sent for registered players. They should report in
with the name of the absent player and their own name. We might also be
able to accept a few players on a standby basis for others that
registered but cannot come.

The rank determined by the home school is to be listed by each player.
This will be used only for the first round pairing. Please compare and
rank all players at your school at each grade level. We do not use Chess
Federation rating and do not need rank if there is no school club.

Officers and members of the Greater Peoria Chess Federation have assisted
us in setting up the tournament and will serve as directors and
officials. We greatly appreciate their assistance.
